More than anything else, staff members at Saguaro Camp Cedarbrook are trained, mature men and women who love the Lord, love kids and love camping and want to share their enthusiasm with others.
Adults, 18 years old and over who meet the requirements, are trained in camping and counseling skills which enable them to be effective staff members. Saguaro Camp Cedarbrook has positions available for cabin counselors, division directors, nurses, and other support staff. At our camp, all our staff is comprised of volunteers.
Yvonne Tangen, “Mallard”, and Kathy Dolk, “Towhee”, are co-directing girls camp this year. Yvonne has been a camp staff member for 29 years and has held various positions. She has served as a counselor, Division Director, Activity Coordinator and is also our Board President. She is married and has two boys. Kathy has been on camp staff for 33 years. She has had various positions such as counselor, Division Director, Pioneer House leader, is our registrar and current Board Vice-President. She has two children, both of whom attended camp as campers as did Kathy herself. She hopes her two grandchildren will be able to attend camp when they are old enough. Both Yvonne and Kathy see camp as a valuable way to serve the Lord and share their love of Jesus with both campers and staff.
Ron Bykerk has been affiliated with Saguaro Camp Cedarbrook for nine years. He’s spent three years as an upper division counselor and three years as a lower division counselor. As of 2019 he’s been the boys camp director. As director, Ron focus is on building the core values of Skill Building, Creation Appreciation, Spiritual Formation and Relationships and Community that make this camp so unique. Ron is married to his wife Sharon of over two decades and is the father of six children and the grandfather of seven. Ron is also the owner of a horse business for over 25 years, and is a licensed real estate agent.
